Basic Fingerless Mitts

Last time, I posted a pattern for Fingerless Mitts inspired by the mitts featured on the STARZ television show, Outlander. (Great show, great book series by Diana Gabaldon.) Today I'm sharing a great basic pattern that knits up fast, is easy to learn, and lends itself well to some awesome variations.

These Basic Fingerless Mitts take only a couple of ounces of yarn and some basic knitting know-how (you only have to know how to knit and purl!)

My daughters enjoyed modeling these mitts, and loved wearing them during the cold winter months (here in South Carolina, that was only the month of December). I find them very warm and comfortable while playing the violin and viola, and I wear them all the time.

Project #5 - Susquehanna University scarves

Started: Before 10/1/2023 Finished: 10/24/2023 My youngest daughter is attending Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, and I am so proud of her. But she was born and raised in South Carolina - winter is going to be cruel for her. I decided to make her scarves in her school colors - maroon and orange. I had the hardest time finding yarn for the project, but ended up with Bernat Softee Chunky in Pumpkin and Wine. It was quite a bit more expensive than I wanted, but it was worth it. [image] Her roommate has been very generous and a great friend to her, so I decided to make a scarf for her, as well. My other daughter is visiting Pennsylvania this weekend, so I had to hurry up and finish the scarves for her to take along. I decided to go with a V-stitch for the first one . I love the V-stitch. Work Log - 20 October, Friday

Spinning Washed skein 3 for kids' hats . Started to spin Jacob fleece for knitted ponchos , but I just couldn't handle the lanolin. I had only cold-washed this fleece, but it really needed a hot rinse to get the lanolin out. Fleece is drying now. Facebook Added 3 posts to my Facebook page .

Outlander Inspired Fingerless Mitts

I love fingerless gloves. They're especially handy keeping my hands warm while playing the violin outdoors in the winter. I had crocheted a pair several years ago, but one went by way of the sock trick (you know - you put two in the wash, and only one comes out?). Anyway, around my third time through the Outlander TV series, I started taking more notice of the outfits and accessories the women were wearing. Since I had a need, I decided to have another go at a pair of fingerless gloves, and this is what I came up with. Enjoy! I started by measuring around my palm, at the base of my index and pinky fingers. I measured my right hand, since it's a little bigger. In fact, I couldn't find my tape measure, so my daughter put a piece of washi tape around my hand, then stuck it to a piece of paper.
